Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) processing

For additional information on the SIP protocol see also :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Session_Initiation_Protocol

https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3261

Remark : RFC 3261 is the basic SIP RFC. Various extensions and clarifications have been published afterwards.

For the different SIP request methods an exclusive selection of always or on error or never can be made :

Audit the SIP protocol

When Audit the SIP protocol is selected then ALL SIP messages are shown in the output. (INVITE, REGISTER, OPTIONS, SUBSCRIBE, NOTIFY, PUBLISH)

When Audit the SIP protocol is selected then ALL ERRORNEOUS SIP messages of the specific request method (INVITE, REGISTER, OPTIONS, ...) are shown in the output.

The on error selection can be used to focus on error cases inside (large) Wireshark files. This helps to improve the needed processing time as also the required disk space.

When Audit the SIP protocol is selected then NO SIP messages of the specific request method (INVITE, REGISTER, OPTIONS, ...) are shown in the output.

The never selection can be used to focus on specific SIP message types, e.g. to filter out SIP OPTIONS that can represent the majority of the SIP messages.

This selection helps to improve the needed processing time as also the required disk space.

The output of the SIP flags is explained in the section SIP messages .
